Swimming In Sindelfingen

We moved to Sindelfingen in Germany in Aug 2008. I was employed by RLE International involved in automobile design services. After a few months of work I found myself at home because of the recession. I received a reduced salary given by the German government through a system called "Kurzarbeit". To keep myself mentally and physically refreshed I thought of starting swimming again after a gap of almost 4 years. Badezentrum is a swimming pool complex in Sindelfingen which is the largest in south Germany. Membership here was expensive for me but they were giving a special offer only for summer which I just could not resist.

Swimming in the indoor pool here was an amazing experience for me during the summer of 2009.

Swimming in Shah Alam

After leaving IIT Madras in 1997 I did not get a chance to swim for many years. In June 2004 when I moved to Shah Alam in Malaysia and stayed there for 6 months to work on a project. We stayed at a residential complex called Seri Hijauan which had a nice swimming pool.

Almost every evening after coming back from work I used to swim here and feel refreshed.

Swimming in Mumbai

My father, a doctor in the Indian Air Force was posted in Mumbai and was serving at the Naval Hospital. We had recently moved into our quarters in a lovely colony for naval personnel called Navy Nagar which also had a good swimming pool.

The pool belonged to the Navy and was not far from our home. It used to be open for officer's children on every alternate day and I used to go there soon after returning from school. Each day I used to swim for about 70 breadths of the pool (around 2000m>. I did that for 4 years until May 1991.

Swimming in New Delhi

My father wanted me to learn swimming when I was 7. He first joined me in the swimming pool of the Army Officer's Club in Delhi Cantonment, seen here

The coach there had a tough time teaching me as I was refusing to learn and finally my father decided to join me in a professional swimming institute at Talkatora swimming pool which was recently built for the Asian Games.

My father's friend also joined his son in the same institute which was quite far from our quarters in Delhi Cantonment. They took turns and used to take us, the 2 kids on their scooter every alternate day. They did it patiently for 1 year. Thanks to them and the very meticulous coach, we learned the right technique of swimming.
